This position serves as an Archeologist in the Medford District Office. Duties of the position include:
conducts inventories to locate heritage resources and determine impacts due to developmental activities in accordance with applicable federal laws, regulations and policies; determines the significance of heritage resources found during surveys and recommends to management, tribal entities, consulting parties, and the public strategies for avoidance, minimization, data recovery, and/or mitigation of adverse effects to significant heritage resources; ensures compliance with Section 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act; provides recommendations and solutions required to achieve compliance and eliminate resource conflicts; prepares professional reports and studies and reviews reports made by others to meet compliance requirements of legislation, regulation, and needs of BLM management; and conducts outreach and educational activities about heritage resources and values at schools, in the field, or at other community venues. Physical Demands:
Field work routinely requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing or walking over rough, uneven, rocky surfaces or mountainous terrain; recurring bending, crouching, stooping or reaching; using hand tools such as shovels, trowels, or screening devices; and lifting of moderately heavy items such as equipment and samples. Work Environment:
The work regularly involves moderates risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions, e.g. adverse weather conditions, hazardous driving conditions, irritating or occasionally hazardous chemicals; hostile wildlife; and travel in off-road vehicles. Selective Placement Factors:
This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified. Experience utilizing knowledge of historical hard rock mining practices to conduct inventory and prepare archaeology site records and reports focusing on historical mining features. Basic Requirements:
This position requires a bachelor's degree that included 3 semester hours in each of the following course areas:
History of Archeology Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating and analytical techniques Archeological field school, to provide a basic understand of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work. -AND- Six semester hours of related course in:
geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition) and/or surveying; -AND- Archeological field school. A degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements above (including archeological field school). You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades. In addition to meeting the selective placement factor and basic entry requirements, applicants must have specialized experience of one year (1) equivalent to the GS-09 grave level -OR- 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree -OR- a combination of education and experience. Specialized Experience Requirements:
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-09) of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include documenting and coordinating the management of artifacts, collections, and associated records; providing professional recommendations on archaeological, historic, or prehistoric structures or objects during surveys; ensuring compliance with Section 106 and 107 of the National Historic Preservation Act; or utilizing GIS systems and geospatial databases to input heritage resource and spatial data. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
