Environmental Protection Specialist

The Environmental Protection Specialist position is a zoned position between the Medford and Roseburg Districts with a duty station in Medford, OR. The incumbent performs approximately 75% of its duties for the Medford District and the remaining 25% for the Roseburg District. Major duties include:
conducts research and gathers and maintains environmental data for mitigation of surface and subsurface impacts; coordinates and participates in inspections; inspects construction sites for surrounding ecosystem and habitat impacts; develops, recommends and implements plans to accomplish program surface protection goals; assists with the hazard materials and Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) programs; provides technical assistance to the lands and realty program in land acquisition, disposal, and exchange activities (including environmental site assessments); and performs preliminary acquisition liability surveys (PALS). Physical Demands:
The individual works in an office setting however, considerable field work is needed in order to gather data and perform on site evaluations. The individual may be required to walk or ride vehicles over rough terrain, perform duties that require recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching or lifting. Work may also include lifting of moderately heavy items, such as equipment and samples. Work Environment:
The work is performed in an office setting. However when necessary to complete the work, there may be considerable outdoor exposure. Outdoor exposure requires some discomfort in extremes of temperature or inclement weather. The incumbent may be subjected to hostile wildlife, chemical and physical hazards. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience for the GS-11 Environmental Protection Specialist:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in Environmental Protection Specialist work. Examples of specialized experience includes:
work involving use of policies, organizational processes, operations, work practices, and environmental parameters of regulated industries and Federal agencies, States, or other entities sufficient to obtain information, evaluate compliance, and recommend necessary changes to control measures and best management practices; -OR- have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; -OR- have an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
