Forestry Technician

This position serves as a Forestry Technician (Timber Sales) in the Medford and Roseburg Districts. The incumbent coordinates and provides expertise in all aspects of timber sale operations including reporting; bid openings; contract accounting; contract preparation, modifications, and terminations; trespass cases; and contracts for the sale of special forest products. The incumbent also assists with planning and environmental compliance documentation and records. Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office setting with occasional outdoor work. Field work requires physical activity when making ground examinations in connection with proposed or active timber sales. This may include walking and hiking over rough mountainous terrain.Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office setting with occasional outdoor work. Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air conditioned office. Field work involves driving on narrow mountain logging roads, hiking in step mountainous terrain, or working around active logging equipment. Exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough and slippery terrain, or wet weather are common. GS-08:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level -OR- 2 full years of graduate education or a master's degree which directly relates to the work of the position -OR- a combination of education and experience. GS-09:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level -OR- 2 full years of graduate education or a master's degree which directly relates to the work of the position -OR- a combination of education and experience. Specialized Experience Requirements:
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. Employees at this level use a knowledge of the processes, methods, and procedures associated with aid types of duties to resolve the full range of irregular or problem situations when performing a wide variety of either highly interrelated tasks or nonstandard assignments. Examples of specialized experience for GS-08:
Review and prepare timber sale notices; assist in reviewing and formatting protest and appeal response letters; receive bids on timber sales; and enter log scale tickets from scale timber sales into the Bureau Ticket Tracker database. Examples of specialized experience for GS-09:
Prepare timber sale notices, prospectuses, and legal advertisements; participate in oral and sealed timber sale bid auctions; prepare timber sale contracts and analyze contract modifications and terminations; and maintain and operate timber sale database. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
