Hydrologist

This position serves as a Hydrologist in the Medford District Office responsible for performing work involving the collection, analysis, and evaluation of surface water and ground water quality and quantity associated with the management of public lands and functionality of the hydrologic cycle. The employee is responsible for the development of improved methods and techniques for inventorying, monitoring, and managing water resources and for integrating water resource management with all other resource programs in land use and project planning. Major duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Developing procedures and standards for hydrology work and reviewing/interpreting program policy; serving as the principle staff specialist on hydrology and water resources program issues; providing policy guidance and interpretation on water management issues to District and Field Offices; serving on interagency committees with government agencies, tribal councils, and other Bureau of Land Management offices; negotiating cooperative agreements and memorandums of understanding with special interest groups and other organizations; serving on interdisciplinary teams, e.g., land health assessment teams, land use planning teams, etc.; and serving as the budget lead for water and hydrology resource program areas. Physical Demands:
Work is conducted in an office setting with occasional walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items. Field work in rugged terrain during inclement weather would be required, although not frequent Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office setting, however, when necessary to complete the work, there may be outdoor exposure. Exposure may be in extreme or inclement weather. Basic Education Requirement:
This position has a basic education requirement which requires you to have a degree in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics. Calculus and physics, as described above, are requirements for all grade levels; OR a combination of education and experience that includes the coursework shown above plus appropriate experience such as field or laboratory work requiring application of hydrologic theory and related sciences such as geology, geo-chemistry, geophysics or civil engineering to make observations, take samples, operate instruments, assemble, analyze and interpret data and report findings orally and in writing. You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades. Specialized Experience Requirements:
In addition to meeting the basic entry requirement, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education of the position. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade. Specialized Experience for the GS-12 Hydrologist:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in hydrologic related work. Specialized experience is defined as experience which includes the application of knowledge and competence in solving theoretical and practical hydrologic problems. Examples:
Application and use of the interrelationships between watershed condition and the effects of various forest management practices; devising strategies to overcome resource management problems related to water quality and quantity issues; planning and coordinating projects involving the analysis and evaluation of flow and transport of sediment or pollutants in stream channels; applying a variety of hydrologic models to generate information on stream discharge, high flows, channel behavior, and sedimentation; and calibrating hydrologic models to account for changes in land use patterns and modifying modeling procedures to improve model validity. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
