Wildlife Biologist

As a Wildlife Biologist for the Butte Falls Field Office in the Medford District, the incumbent performs work as an advanced trainee under the guidance and supervision of a supervisor or higher graded wildlife biologist. Major duties include:
managing the District's spotted owl survey contract, developing task orders and associated documents and maps, inspecting the contractor's subsequent survey and data collection, and performing data entry. The incumbent may perform spotted owl surveys, habitat evaluations, or site checks as needed, and work closely with the timber program, silviculturists, and other biologists on timber sale marking and post-harvest reviews. Physical Demands:
Work is sedentary and may occasionally require physical exertion such as walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces and exposure to extreme temperatures. Field duties require the operation of four-wheel drive vehicles on and off roads in isolated areas.Work Environment:
Work is performed in the office and field locations under a variety of topographic and climatic conditions. Basic Education Requirement:
This position has a basic education requirement which requires you to have a degree in biological science that includes at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences; -OR- a combination of education and
Experience:
equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades. Specialized Experience Requirements:
In addition to meeting the basic entry requirement, applicants must have appropriate experience or additional education. In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade. Specialized Experience for the GS-07 Wildlife Biologist:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in wildlife management related work. Specialized experience is defined as experience which includes the application of knowledge and competence in wildlife conservation or wildlife management. Examples:
assisting higher level professionals with vegetative management for riparian habitat maintenance & enhancement, and wildlife & fisheries habitat management by classifying habitat & vegetation types, determining habitat condition & improvement, and contributing to planning documents; OR 1 year of graduate education in wildlife biology or a directly related field or you meet the requirements for Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.). See OPM Qualification Standard-General Policies E(4)(f); OR an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above. Only graduate level education may be combined with experience.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
