In the clinical departments, theUnit Secretaryperforms a wide variety of clerical, receptionist and administrative support functions and acts as the key liaison for patients, families, visitors, physicians and coworkers. The environment is very fast-paced and requires excellent administrative skills with great attention to detail. Strong computer skills are also important, as the Unit Secretary may use several different software applications. The Unit Secretary is actively involved in order entry, placing reports into patient''s medical records, assisting with chart preparation for admissions, transfers, surgery, and other related duties such as:
Keeping the logbook current on a daily basis.
Compiling biweekly and monthly stats and forwarding as appropriate.
Maintaining sufficient office supply levels and reordering as necessary.
Handling and maintaining forms used in the department.
Scheduling patients for department services such as tests and procedures.
Coordinating meetings as directed including location, participants, agenda and minutes.
Education:A High School diploma or equivalentis required. Also required is a strong knowledge of medical terminology - typically gained through completion of a medical terminology course or experience in a healthcare and/or medical office environment.
Experience:This position requires previous clerical experience providing knowledge of office procedures, office equipment and computer programs - typically gained through 2-3 years of office experience. Less experience will be considered if gained in a clinical capacity within the unit/department that provides knowledge of unit policies, procedures and unit-specific clerical training. In this position, the ability to multi-task, prioritize demands, communicate effectively and work as a member of a team is crucial. Other required qualifications include the ability to work well without direct supervision and the ability to be flexible and adaptable to change while maintaining a positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate''s degree in office sciences or related area.
CNA-2 - Acute Care licensed by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN).
Computer software application training.
Direct experience using MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and unit-specific software applications.
Current knowledge and skills appropriate to unit.
Ability to cross-train to CNA duties.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
