Our field positions are ideal for professional minded individuals who enjoy working independently with an educational background in forestry, natural resource, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental studies, or related disciplines and with exposure in these fields or line of work.
Under the direction of Registered Professional Foresters, Forestry
Technicians will assist with development and administration of forest mensuration, silviculture and forest engineering (harvesting, road construction) projects. They will compile data pertaining to size, content, condition, and other characteristics of forest tracts. Also train and lead forest workers in ROW management, forest propagation, fire prevention and suppression. May assist Foresters in managing, improving, and protecting rangelands and wildlife habitats, and help provide technical assistance regarding the conservation of soil, water, and related natural resources.
Requirements:
2 or 4 year degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Natural Resources and related fields preferred
Assist with development and administration of forest mensuration, silviculture, and forest engineering (harvesting, road construction) projects.
Must be a Region 6 USFS Certified Forester and be able to navigate difficult forested landscapes in remote locations.
Must be able to navigate difficult forested landscapes and associated elements in remote locations in Southern half of Oregon
Must have basic understanding of silvicultural systems, timber cruising and marking principles, wood scaling principles and practices
Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates, land description principles and use
Must have knowledge of forest fire prevention, suppression, pre-suppression, and investigative techniques
Reporting preparation and basic math and accounting skills a must
Vegetation management/utility line clearance experience a plus
ISA Certified Arborist and utility specialist a plus
Proficient computer skills, ability to work with computer programs and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to resolve customer concerns
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to schedule and prioritize weekly work flow assignments; strong time management and organizational skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work in inclement weather
Ability to read and follow maps
Self-starter/organized/productive
Must be flexible in times of need, including extended week nights and weekends
Valid Driver License and ability to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle
